The awkward questions, answered.

How do I know you will not take my money and disappear?
You do not have to take our word for it, and you should not. Three things protect you. First, you never send the full amount — payment is split into milestones released against proof you can see. Second, we are a registered company in China with a licence number, a fixed address and directors you can look up. Third, start small. Send us one modest order, watch how we handle it, and scale up only when we have earned it. Any serious partner should be willing to be tested.
Can you help with the bank permit and foreign currency side?
For most Ethiopian importers the hardest part is not the shipping — it is the import permit and the foreign currency. Since the July 2024 float your bank issues the permit directly, for any value. But the queue did not disappear, it moved: the IMF put bank FX backlogs at around USD 1.4 billion as of April 2026. We prepare the proforma, contract and supporting documents your bank needs in the format they expect, and we work to your bank's timeline. We cannot allocate foreign currency for you and we will never claim otherwise. One warning: franco valuta was closed to most traders by directive FVD/01/2026 on 29 May 2026 — if anyone has told you otherwise, check before you commit money.
What is the minimum order?
[SET YOUR REAL MINIMUM HERE.] There is no minimum for a consultation or a quotation. For shipping, LCL means you can move as little as one cubic metre, so you do not need a full container to start. Many of our customers begin with a single test order before committing to volume — we encourage it.
What happens if the goods arrive damaged or short?
This is exactly why the pre-shipment inspection report matters. Because we photographed and counted your goods before loading, we can prove the condition they left China in — which decides whether it is a supplier problem, a handling problem or an insurance claim. We recommend cargo insurance on every shipment; it is a small percentage of value and we arrange it with the booking. If something is wrong, we open the claim and chase it, and we tell you what is realistically recoverable rather than what you want to hear.
What can you not ship?
We do not handle counterfeit or brand-infringing goods, weapons or weapon parts, narcotics, ivory or wildlife products, or anything prohibited under Ethiopian import law or Chinese export law. Some categories — pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, telecoms equipment, vehicles — are legal but need permits and certificates before they can clear. Ask us early: it is far cheaper to find out at the quotation stage than at Modjo.
Do you only work with big importers?
No. A shop owner buying two pallets and a distributor buying six containers get the same process, the same documents and the same inspection. Small orders travel LCL or by air; large ones travel FCL. The difference is the freight cost per unit, not the level of care.
How do you charge?
[STATE YOUR REAL FEE STRUCTURE HERE — commission percentage, flat service fee, or margin on freight. Being specific about this in public is itself a trust signal; vagueness about pricing is what people are afraid of.] Whatever the structure, it appears as a line on your quotation. You will not find a fee you were not shown.
